FOUR traffic enforcers from the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) are up for commendation for successfully arresting a notorious holdupper who had been operating in various areas in Tondo.
This was learned from MTPB head and chief of staff Ric de Guzman, who said that he has already recommended that appropriate commendation be handed out by Mayor Alfredo Lim to traffic enforcers Ferdinand Borja, Romeo Calida, Ernesto Sebusa and Ricardo Gerbon for the apprehension of the suspect identified as Kenneth Cruz, 21, of Building 8, Unit 39, Temporary Housing in Vitas, Tondo.
Prior to this, two MTPB enforcers -- Harold de Loza and Ric Charles Ang -- were also lauded for helping a 53-year-old woman who was held up in Carriedo, Sta. Cruz, by two “solvent boys” aged 12 and 14.
A report submitted by Manila City Hall-District Special Project Unit follow- up and investigation unit chief Senior Insp. Mar Reyes said that Cruz is a member of the notorious gang known as “Batang City Jail” and was positively identified by his victim identified as Mercilito Apat, 29, accounting clerk of Solid Shipping Lines.
According to the report, Apat was held up at Bgy. 105 on Capulong Street, Tondo, when the commotion drew the attention of the four traffic enforcers.
Upon learning that Apat had been held up, the said traffic enforcers gave chase to the suspect until he was cornered, subsequently yielding the cellphone he took from the victim and the knife he used in the holdup.
